Over the next year our aim is to co-ordinate a wildlife survey of all the churchyards, cemeteries and the curtilages of other places of worship within Cambridge. This survey will identify the wildlife present in each site and their current management.
The survey will increase our knowledge of the occurrence and distribution of species, both flora and fauna, and also provide us with the basic information on identifying and advising on sympathetic management for wildlife.
For each site we would like to produce a survey that shows:
Once the survey has been completed we will use this information to produce a summary of all the sites in the city and their wildlife interest. For individual sites we will produce:
Volunteers are essential to the success of the survey. Can you help by doing a survey at your own church? We are looking for people who would like to become involved, we will provide all necessary training and support. We really want people who are involved in their church to help with the survey as you will already have an understanding of what happens at the site and what the potential is for each site. We are running a series of basic training days during early May and throughout the rest of the summer we will run some more detailed events on a variety of subjects including:
If you would like to take part in the survey then please let us know. It is important that we know which site that you wish to survey so that we can keep a record of all the sites.
There are two PDF documents, which are downloadable and printable, available in relation to the survey:
