Water vole

Would you like to help the country's fastest declining mammal by becoming a water vole surveyor? We want to know if water voles are still present in the rivers and ditches where they have been recorded in the past. This will allow us to monitor their distribution across the area and give an indication about whether the population is stable. To do this we need volunteers to visit one site every month to look for the tell tale water vole signs such as droppings and bank holes. We need surveyors form across the Cambridge Green Belt area, including the City. The water vole was our Species of the Month for April 2004. More information about the water vole can be found here.

If you want to learn more about the water vole and surveying for this elusive creature why not come along to our training day, for more details see the events page.
